About Uc value in surge protector
February 26 , 2024SPD surge protector Uc means "maximum continuous operating voltage" and is one of the key parameters of lightning surge protectors. The main Uc values of lightning surge protectors currently on the market are 255V, 275V, 320V, and 385V. , 420V, etc. Many customers don’t know how to choose or what standards they are based on when choosing.
The Uc of the power surge protector refers to the maximum continuous operating voltage, which is the maximum root mean square voltage or DC voltage that is allowed to be continuously applied to the lightning protector. Uc is of great significance for surge protective device, especially metal oxide varistor arresters. Exceeding Uc will cause the surge protector to overheat, accelerate aging, and even be damaged. The rated voltage of the surge protector should be greater than the nominal voltage of the power grid to which the lightning arrester is connected. The larger the Uc value, the better. The larger the Uc value, the higher the starting voltage of the surge protector. The higher the starting voltage, the higher the residual voltage value of the surge protector. If the residual voltage is too high, the surge protector may fail. It can work, but the back-end equipment cannot withstand the impact of residual pressure and be damaged.
